Gravesham Host to Great New Courts

Over the last four weekends, UK Wallball’s newest courts have played host to four introductory Wallball taster sessions delivered by a range of GB internationals. The sessions took place at Cygnets Leisure Centre in Gravesend and introduced more than 50 people to the sport, with attendees ranging from ages 6 to 64.

The courts were set up with the help of Wickes, who supplied court materials, P & O Ferries, whose grant funded start up equipment, and Gravesham Borough Council. With the huge interest generated, the Centre is now looking at setting up a weekly club to give more people an opportunity to play the sport.

Luke Thomson, a Gravesham resident and member of the GBR Wallball team, ran all four sessions and commented, “Having experienced first-hand the huge potential of Wallball I really wanted to get some courts set up in my home town. Thankfully many people got behind the project and now we have two great courts and some real interest in the sport. I hope once the new club is set up it can continue to build on this great start and help us to spread the awareness of this fantastic game.”

Fellow GBR players Dan Tristao and Luke Stradwick also dropped in on the sessions to inspire those in attendance. The courts are regulation size and we hope they may play host to future regional and national events.
