An absolutely brilliant day was had by all on Saturday 6th August – the day where we launched Wallball officially in East London. Carpenter’s Court, a stone’s throw from the Olympic Stadium, was the venue and dozens of local kids and families descended on the venue for a fun day of face-painting, BBQ, football, spike ball and, of course, lots of Wallball.
The project was hatched as part of a partnership between UK Wallball, London Legacy Development Commission, UCL-East and Genesis Housing. The court was decorated by a magnificent mural incorporating ball patterns designed by local children from Carpenter’s Primary School. We’re pretty sure this is the first time a vinyl mural has been used on a wallball court and we’re really proud of our amazing design team.
“Wallball is a great game for anyone of any age. And you don’t need to be competitive to play, you can just have friendly games!”
On the day everyone who came (including those roped in off the street!) was treated to loads of wallball under the mentorship of Team GB. Great food, great music, great atmosphere!
Off the back of this event we’ll be running regular sessions with West Ham, Fre Flyers and London Lions at the court on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in the coming months we’ll hopefully get a local weekend club going and start Wallball at several more local schools!
UPCOMING FREE SESSIONS – everyone welcome, just turn up!
Thank you to everyone involved from the funders to the builders to the volunteers to the players. None of this would have happened without you!
