The World Games, endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, takes place every four years and includes over 30 sports competiting for full Olympic inclusion such as squash and netball.
A historic meeting in Valencia saw the three international handball confederations (responsible for several codes of handball) sign an agreement to create a new organisation with the sole focus of promoting the 1-wall game on the world stage – a move which takes the number of recognised countries playing handball to over 50. This move triggered the acceptance of handball into the ‘second tier Olympics’ – the World Games – to be held in Cali, Columbia, in 2013.
This new addition will be considered the highlight of the sporting calendar for handball athletes across the globe, and will trigger a huge push to promote handball in sports halls and outdoor walls worldwide.
