Having a Blast in Belgium

This weekend was the 6th Belgium Open and what fun it was. A team of 4 Brits went over this year – top players Grant & Tristao and development players Ollie Arnold and Louise Mathias.

Although not our most successful tournament to date, we can’t help but praise the wonderful organisation from Seb, Guillaume and Geert. Smooth running and a fantastic show.

The two Dans got to the quarter finals of both the singles and doubles where they sadly fell. In the singles Dan T lost to the eventual champ and no.1 player Sacha Kruithof from Spain, though it has to be said he pushed him close! Dan G lost to Leandro Rodriguez from Argentina who clawed back Dan’s early lead to take the match in the 11th hour. In the doubles the players lost by the narrowest of margins to Holland’s finest, Wassenaar & Steenstra, 15-14.

Ollie and Louise both got noticeably better over the day both in singles and doubles. Although neither won a match (seriously tough field this year), they did have a great time and by the end felt comfortable both refereeing and playing.

Louise and Annalien - her 2nd match at an international event. Go Louise!!

A great effort by all players and we hope for some even better results next weekend in Holland, where we have our best track record.
