What’s special about them is that they are the first courts in the UK which will be free to use by anyone at any time. They are our first Community Courts and the first step towards replicating the successful New York model – a city which now has over 2,500 free courts.
The project is in partnership with Camden Council and our sponsors – UCL and UCL Academy. They were built by a volunteer group of Wallballers at the end of July and have been tested for a month before the grand opening on Thursday 5th September. We hope the courts will be used not only by local communities & schools, but by outreach initiatives and charity groups too. The court use will be monitored and evaluated throughout the year and in 12 months time we’ll take our data back to the Government and if it looks good, we’ll start to roll out wallball across the country.
